In the textile traditions of Turkey, founder Handan Anlar grew up surrounded by talented artisans and beautiful textiles made from what she calls the best cotton in the world. Those artisans inspired her to pursue a career in design, and in the 1990s she came to the United States to earn a graphic arts degree.
After graduating, Handan moved to New York City and worked in high end fashion, spending 20 years in corporate retail. Her love for beautiful textiles never faded, so she founded Home & Loft, a women owned and run home and lifestyle textile brand that supports and empowers Turkish artisans in the ancient weaving tradition. Each piece is hand loomed from cotton, linen or wool and made with both form and function in mind.
Handan says she believes small batch goods are better for the welfare of the makers and the environment, and she hopes to keep the weaving tradition alive. Her work joins the craftsmanship of Mediterranean artisans with modern, urban design.
