Throughout India, Matr Boomie partners with over 2,000 artisans in marginalized communities, blending the country's traditional art forms with timeless, modern design. In Sanskrit, matr means mother and boomie means land, so together the name means motherland, the ground we walk on, the creative source.
Matr Boomie was founded by Manish Gupta and Ruchi Agrawal, who met on an arranged date and found they shared a wish to create a more kind and fair world. With a team in India and a team in Austin designing custom collections, the little company run out of their Austin apartment grew into a leading fair trade company, and Ruchi and Manish continue to lead Matr Boomie together. The company goes beyond fair wages, investing in development projects, healthcare and education, and in vocational training and literacy programs so women artisans can reach their full potential and become entrepreneurs.
Matr Boomie says its jewelry, home decor and gifts are made from natural and upcycled materials, sourced in a socially and environmentally responsible manner. Its mission is to bring people and cultures closer together.
