Provincial Napkins - French Navy Stripe

In 1998, master weaver Stuart Holding came into possession of two restored antique looms. He wove limited runs of homeware textiles in what he called his "working weaving museum," an old barn where passersby could watch him work.

He sold the textiles in his wife Janet's shop, and soon demand outgrew supply. Today Mungo has its own mill near Stuart's original barn in the Plettenberg Bay area of South Africa, four stores and a team of more than 100. Those two old looms are still going strong. Mungo says it never compromises on production methods or the cost of raw materials, and it believes that what it makes, and how it makes it, can help improve the world we live in.

The whole Mungo Mill is open to the public, so visitors can see how the fabric is made. Mungo says it is South Africa's first GOTS-certified textile weaving mill, and since 2019 it has put 1% of its annual turnover toward projects that benefit the Plettenberg Bay area.
